If you are a beginner and do not know how and from where to start then here are some suggestions. The basic yoga starts from Surya Namaskaras. 12 poses, also known as the sun salutations is where one starts. As a beginner never repeat more than one repetition. Later on, one can perform 2-3 repetitions but never more than that.
- Pranamasana (Indian salute pose/ Prayer Pose): Hands joined together in front of the chest, parallel to the ground with a peaceful mind and relaxed body.
- Hasta Uttanasana: Arms straight and raised opening your chest with an arch in on the back
- Padahastasana: Bending forward with a straight back and trying to touch one’s own feet is what it stands for. Can be difficult when you are a beginner and constant practice will take you there.
- Ashwa Sanchalanasana (Equestrian Pose):
Is a continuation of the Padahastasana. With hands still on the floor bring your right leg forward and push the left as much as you can with the knee touching the floor.
-
Parvatasana: Also known as Mountain pose because you resemble the peak of the mountain.
-
Ashtanga Namaskara: With knees down on the floor slide you hip slightly forward, rest your chest and chin on the floor with a little rise in the posterior. With the eight parts of the body, two hands, two feet, two knees, chest and chin touching the floor.
-
Bhujangasana: Continuing the asgtanga namaskara slide forward with raised chest pushing yourself with your hands making an arch on the back.
The last five are basically the repetition of the first 5 with the leg positions reversed.
- Parvatasana: Mountain pose because you resemble the peak of the mountain.
- Ashwa Sanchalanasana (Equestrian Pose): Is a continuation of the Padahastasana. With hands still on the floor bring your right leg forward and push the left as much as you can with the knee touching the floor.
- Padahastasana: Bending forward with a straight back and trying to touch one’s own feet is what it stands for. Can be difficult when you are a beginner and constant practice will take you there.
