Beerakai Pappu: The staple food of Indians include DAL ( lentils) and we only need ways to make it more tasty and healthy. Beerakai pappu ( ridge gourd dal) is one such preparation that fits your busy morning schedule yielding a very tasty side dish in no time.
Ingredients required to make Beerakai Pappu
- Beerakai | Ridge gourd: 2
- Dal: 1 cup
- Ghee: 2 tablespoons
- mustard seeds: 1/2 a teaspoon
- Cumin seeds: 1/2 a teaspoon
- Slit green chili: 4
- Dry red chili: 2
- Turmeric powder:1/4 of a teaspoon
- salt: to taste
- Asafoetida/Hing: 2 Pinches
Method to make Beerakai Pappu:
Cook toor dal, and chopped beerakai in the pressure cooker with little salt and turmeric for 3 whistles. Keep the cooked dal aside and prepare the tampering.
Take a pan, heat some ghee. To the pan add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and let them sputter.
To the pan add dry chilis and slit green chilis.
To it add curry leaves and asafoetida and fry for few seconds.
Add the cooked dal to the prepared tampering. Give a good mix, add salt to taste and bring the dal to a boil. The Beerakai pappu is now ready to be served with hot steamed rice.
