Tips for Powder Room Renovation and a bit of our story behind it.
Marriage , baby and a new house – these kind of fall in a row don’t they? While it’s a dream come true, handling a baby and turning the dream house to dream home is no joke.
With the desire to carefully decorate every inch of your home comes with the responsibility of doing research, first in choosing the look for the home and then dealing with one room at a time.
From the tiles to the ceiling, from door mats to carpets and from napkins to the curtains you gotta decide them all!!
You heard me right and I never knew that before you pick the right colour for your kid’s room you might have to go for at least 10 test patches of the same just to get that perfect blue. Hmm atleast we had to !
As a part of the process, the room that posed a challenge, was the smallest yet one of the most important rooms in forming an impression. The Powder Room. And so, we thought why not share some of the tips that we thought are important here. And hence we go:
The purpose:
Like the name suggests the powder rooms aren’t very big which ofcourse creates a limitation. But hey, its just another rest room with a fancy name primarily for guests – a place where they can freshen up. So, if it fits all the basic restroom necessities such as a toilet, sink, and toiletries you are too good to go. A good lighting, nice aroma, and some nature would make the place just right and some impression to take home.
The wash basin:
When working on this tiny room with the thought of making it as modern as possible, an eye on a good wash basin plays a major role. After all it is going to be the center piece. With the dimensions available you can shop for the look in your mind. But, if you want to play safe a bowl shape, rectangular over the top sinks will never fail you. When in doubt, look for these.
The Large mirror:
Large mirrors make the room size appear as double – is the simple science behind this. The illusion that a large mirror gives running from wall to wall over the sink has no words. It just makes the room appear a whole lot bigger. So, never think why a big mirror when the smaller meets the purpose.
The hand towels:
You must have observed that when you get into a hotel’s washroom/powder room, the sense of cleanliness and ” you are special ” the clean, white rolled handtowels throw at you. I wanted them, always! The crispy whites create a peaceful and clean environment and what more does a guest want? TIP: Maintain a good stack. The more you have – the happier the soul feels.
Adding Nature:
Some fresh flowers or just a couple of leafy twigs in a small vase works great. Adding something green or something fresh is the point to be taken. While working on this we took it a step ahead and thought why not give our guests a little glimpse of nature here and turn the boring walltiles into beautiful something.
We knew we can’t paint the wall tiles, So it was the time for a wallpaper! With a fantastic range of designs to choose from, Photowall also has an option to use custom designs too. We liked a ton from the collection and that is a good problem to have! We eventually narrowed down our requirement to pick an option that feels serene, one with the nature and bright.
The transformation is breath-taking and worth the effort that’s been put. The room not just feels refreshing to look at, is brighter and feels larger than it actually is!
And finally our journey of giving a complete makeover to our powder room comes to a very satisfying end. Let us know what you think in the comments below 🙂
